Some Healthy Advice

Some of us go to the gym and some of us don’t. Some want to loose a few centimetres and others just want to maintain a figure or stay fit and healthy. Some diet others binge, some are carbohydrate lovers others have phobia’s. We are all different and have different needs and dietary requirements. We want to look a certain way. We eat different foods and we exercise differently.

So why should this blog matter to you? Well… Even though you’re probably eating and exercising to stay healthy… Are you doing it right? Are you eating the right meals, quantities? Are you straining muscles or toning them up? Is your skin getting all the vitamins it needs to be stunning?

Here’s some healthy advice

The key with exercise is firstly to make it fun.

If you don’t pick an activity you like, it isn’t going to work for you.

When seated on an exercise bike ensure that your knee is slightly bent while your leg is extended and the ball of your foot is on the pedal; many people have their seats too high or too low.

A major study of more than 10,000 people found those who cycle at least 20 miles a week are half as likely to have heart problems as those who don’t cycle at all. If you do a lot of bike riding, buy some padded cycling shorts. Buy a pair specific to your gender, and don’t wear underwear under them.

If you want to run faster, reduce the miles you run, and run intervals on two days a week at a faster pace, but leave at least 48 hours between these days for muscles to repair.

Practice landing on the balls of your feet when running on the treadmill.

Use your spine and abdomen when doing crunches instead of your neck; it will be hard at first but will get easier.

Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body; it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity. Read more, go outside and walk around the block, admire the scenery and just let you mind wonder on the numerous thoughts.

Hydration is extremely important. We are told to drink 8 glasses or 2 litres of water a day; but water over-load can be bad for you to. You body retains about 70% of the water you drink in your skin that is why it’s important to drink so much of it. But on the other hand some people trying to loose weight end up retaining water within their systems and that water adds on to the weight. I drink approximately 1 litre to 1.5 litres of water a day just to ensure I’m getting enough but not too much.

For those who take creatine supplements or protein shakes or even the dieting food suppressants – speak to the sales people in store about these products, call a professional dietian and ask them about the products side effects and outcomes. Always research first before buying it and trying it.

How you feel in your clothes is important. I prefer body fit outfits when I want to show off my figure but at the gym comfortable loose track-pants and a slightly baggy t-shirt or fitted vest is best. Comfy shoes (takkies). Remember that socks are a must!!!

If you have long hair or hair long enough to touch your face, try to wear a head band or tie your hair back. When we sweat our body hairs collect most of the moisture to help our skin keep cool and when the hair tips touch your face and neck line, it spread the sweat and other airborne germs to your skin.

If you want to do everything you can to age gracefully, you should avoid anything that has the perfumes and lotions of coconut and orange. The reason is that these fragrances contain a substance called psoralen which is known to speed up the aging process.

This is a Healthy Lunch / Dinner Salad that I love!!! The quantity would depend on how much you’re making and you’re serving size.

  • Roughly strip pieces of skinless, boneless chicken breasts grilled with just a little black pepper seasoning.
  • Tear a few leaves of red and green lettuce or a Pick & Pay / Woolworths Mix-Salad bag.
  • Either cut some baby tomatoes in halves or leave them whole.
  • Cube 3 different kinds/types of cheese (Feta, Kiri, Sweet Milk – are my choices).
  • Slice a few cucumber rings.
  • Chop up some carrot into stick like shapes.
  • Cute mushrooms into quarters.
  • Dice pineapples into bite size pieces.
  • Strip pieces of a firm mango.
  • Drain out whole olives.
  • A couple rings of red onion.
  • Cubed pieces of avocado
  • A hand full of unsalted cashew nuts

Toss all the salad goodies and a big mixing bowl add splashes of Balsamic Vinegar Salad Dressing and Sweet and Spicy Salad Dressing (Knorr Range) then add your warmed chicken strips and drizzle the Honey Mustard Salad Dressing over it.

Voila! The yummiest chicken salad ever!!!
