On New Year’s Day, the South African Defence Force was attacked in Alexandra; shortly after that a bomb explodes at the OK Bazaars supermarket in Eloff Street. There were lots of fights (little wars) in South Africa at the time, lots of bloodshed, people fighting for freedom from slavery, people fighting to better the country. Raids. Bombings. Deaths. In other news; Stock markets across the world fell in October, 1987. The world’s population was approximately five billion people. Tamil Tigers plant a massive bomb in the Sri Lankan capital, Colombo killing more than 100 people. British Airways Merges with British Caledonian to compete with the larger US Airlines. Work on the Channel Tunnel joining UK and France began.
